The Fire Service is an essential life and property saving service. The PMRDA Fire Service is focused on "Fire prevention & Fire Protection", The Fire Service aims to achieve fire safety by way of implementation of a Development Control & Promotion Regulations (DCPR) , "National Building Code of India-2005" (NBC-2005) and "Maharashtra Fire Prevention & Life safety Measure Act-2006 & Rules-2009" and other relevant Acts, Codes and Standards. This will help PMRDA to monitor that there should not be compromise towards life safety and fire safety in its jurisdiction.
The main functions of the Fire Service are divided into three parts i.e. Fire Prevention , Fire Protection. and Training & Awareness
FIRE PREVENTION: is achieved by implementing fire prevention engineering at the planning stage of any building. This includes the location of building, approach roads for the plot, occupancy, surrounding activities and passive fire preventive measures adhering to the DCPR & NBC
FIRE PROTECTION: comprises alerting the occupants of the building also it will help to fight the fire before arrival of fire service. This includes provisions of all the fire fighting systems in the buildings.
The Fire Department issues Provisional Fire No Objection Certificate and Final Fire No Objection Certificate. This will specify the Fire Prevention & Fire protection requirements according to the classification of buildings, Height of the buildings, exposure hazards, etc.

TRAINING & AWARNESS: Regular training & awareness programs amongst the schools, Colleges Residential areas, Industries with in the PMRDA areas are conducted, which plays vital role in safe evacuation of occupants in case of emergency.
