Q1. What is E-GIS about?

Ans: E-GIS is a web-based interface that allows users to access and view spatial and non-spatial information data of PMRDA region.

Q2. What is a Map Screen?

Ans: Map Screen is a way to interact with online maps. This page allows users to view all PMRDA spatial layers in the basemap.

Q3. What are Basemaps?

Ans: BaseMaps refers to collection of GIS data and or orthorectified imagery that form the background setting for a map. One can change the Basemap by navigating to Basemaps Gallery. Available basemaps are: Open street map, Bing map, Aerial Map, Bing road map, Bing Label map, CartoDb map, Contour, Terrain.

Q3. What options are available under Tools Tab of the Map Screen?

Ans: Measure Area and Measure Distance. One can change the Measuring Units to Feet, Meter, Kilometer, Miles and Yards.

Q4. What does the Layers Tab/section contain?

Ans: Layers Tab/section contains all the layers present in the map including its Legends (Styling) & symbols. Layers such as: Agriculture, Forest, Vacant Land, Public Utilities etc.

Q5. What is the coordinate system of the maps in Map screen and can we change it?

Ans: In Map Screen all the layers are in UTM projected coordinate system. One can change the coordinate system by navigating to the Coordinates Dropdown. By default, GCS coordinate system is selected.

Q6. What are Map View Controls?

Ans: The Map View controls helps the user to navigate through the Map. The following tools are provided to Navigate around the Map at the Top Right Corner:

Zoom In – To See more details on the map, user can use the Zoom in Functionality. For mouse – Scroll up to Zoom in.

Zoom Out – To see the data in small scale, user can use the Zoom out functionality. For mouse – Scroll down to Zoom out

Zoom Extent – Takes you to the Default Extent of the Map.

Pan – Click Mouse Left button and Hold to pan on the Map on the screen.

Q7. What does the Search bar do?

Ans: Search bar is to find the desired features with its attribute value and displays its location on the map.

Q8. What are mouse coordinates?

Ans: Displays the coordinates of map with respect to the position of mouse. Coordinates can be seen in GCS or UTM coordinate system. By Default GCS coordinate system is selected. To view the coordinates in UTM – Click on the Drop down to select UTM.

Q9. What data is available under Maps Tab/section?

Ans: The Map tab allows users to view all the secondary data sets including its metadata information such as Census map, Land Slide Villages, Bus stops, topographic maps etc.
